How To Color?:
#1 For Photoshop and GIMP (?)
Use the selection tool to trace around the Cutie you want
File -> New, then Edit -> Paste
Duplicate the Cutie
Set the TOP layer to 'Multiply'
LOCK the BOTTOM layer
Color over the BOTTOM layer
If the TOP layer needs to be lighter/darker, fiddle around with the Image -> Adjustments settings until things look okay
Merge both layers
Save as PNG <-- IMPORTANT for background transparency and quality

#2 For Photoshop
Use the selection tool to trace around the Cutie you want
File -> New, then Edit -> Paste
Duplicate the Cutie
LOCK the TOP Cutie
Now color on the TOP Cutie layer
Use OVERLAY, SCREEN, or MULTIPLY on the TOP Cutie to see which one works best
Merge both layers
Save as PNG <-- IMPORTANT for background transparency and quality

Whatever way you want to color your Cutie, go for it! The above ways are the most successful for me for coloring templates. HAVE FUN
